It is believed that one should NOT sight the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi. Sighting moon on Ganesh Chaturthi creates Mithya Dosham which means false accusation of stealing something.Tainted and Dishonoured by the society.
Sighting of moon might be prohibited for two days. Lord Ganesha curse Moon God (Chandra) tried to make fun of him The actual lesson here is to lose arrogance and stay humble.
